K-State Drops Game 1 to Cajuns, Look to Even Tonight

Head coach Pete Hughes said that when he scheduled this two game series at Louisiana, he knew it would be a test of toughness on the road early on. That’s just what the Cats got last night in Lafayette losing game one with a score of 1-0.

K-State and the Cajuns both only recorded 3 hits for the game, but it was Louisiana who had the big one of a solo home run in the third inning.

Credit is due to Wildcat starting pitcher Tanner Duke who threw a career high 6.1 innings, walked only one batter, and recorded five strike outs. However, the offense just couldn’t get Duke the support he needed as they could not get Louisiana’s pitching figured out.

Some may look at this Cajuns team as one that should be an easy couple wins for the Cats. But the Sun Belt conference is a competitive mid-major that features Coastal Carolina at the top, but Louisiana has been impressive as well. Despite a down year last year, the program has a past of posting seasons with 30+ wins, including 40+ win seasons in 2023 and 2024.

K-State will look to split the series tonight, actually on TV (Yay!), before heading back to Manhattan for the first home series of the season.
