Bat Cats Heat Up Ahead of Crucial Rivalry Series with KU

The Bat Cats took three out of four games on their Arizona trip, winning two of three against Arizona before picking up a victory over Grand Canyon. Neither team boasts an impressive record and both are below .500, but it was still refreshing to come away with a series win heading into a tough rivalry weekend against ranked KU. James Guyette and Lincoln Sheffield continued their strong seasons, each allowing just one run to lead the Cats to 2–1 and 11–1 victories. Guyette rec

Butler Shines, but K-State Falls in Extra-Inning Battle

K-State was down to their last strike in game three, leading 9–7 and on the verge of completing a weekend series sweep over the Oklahoma State Cowboys. However, Garrett Shull smacked a three-run home run in the top of the ninth to give Oklahoma State a 10–9 lead. The Cowboys ultimately went on to win 12–10 in 13 innings. Tazwell Butler had a stellar outing, going six innings while allowing three hits and four runs (three earned), and striking out 11. Three of those runs came

Bat Cats Break Out of Slump, Take Down Wichita State 10–6

The Bat Cats bounced back from an 18-inning scoreless drought with a 10–6 victory over Wichita State last night. Thirteen hits powered the 10-run performance, alongside strong production from the bottom of the lineup. Cadyn Karl, Chandler Murray, and Shea McGahan came through to combine for four hits, three runs scored, four RBIs, two doubles, five walks, and two stolen bases. Karl, who became an everyday starter around the Houston series, has really settled into his role. Hi

Hot Start, Cold Finish: K-State Drops Series to TCU

K-State got off to a hot start with an exciting 13–12 walk-off win Friday evening against TCU. Everyone in the Wildcats’ starting lineup registered a hit, with AJ Evasco, Carlos Vasquez, and Shintaro Inoue each recording multi-hit games. TCU was scoring almost every inning until Adam Arther and Miles Smith came in to hold the Horned Frogs scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings. Smith was especially dominant, going 1.2 innings and facing just four batters. None other than D

Wildcats Crush BYU Behind Six Home Runs

The Bat Cats bounced back in a big way in their final game in Utah on Tuesday night, run-ruling BYU 16–3 after eight innings. The Cats scored in every inning but one to improve to 19–10 on the season. The game got off to a hot start, with Grant Gallagher leading things off with a home run. He was followed later in the inning by long balls from Dee Kennedy and Carlos Vasquez. The Wildcats continued their hitting clinic, finishing with six home runs and five doubles. Kennedy an

K-State Drops Series to Utah After Late-Game Struggles

It was a very disappointing series against Utah this past weekend for K-State. The Cats dropped two of three games to a team in the bottom half of the Big 12 standings. K-State's lone win came in game one by a score of 8–5. James Guyette was stellar across six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out 10 batters. Adam Arther came on in relief to earn the save. Bear Madliak stole the show, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, highlighted by a double and two home r

K-State Drops Slugfest to Nebraska, Eyes Bounce-Back vs. Utah

Just a short recap today—yes, I know I’m late getting something out, so my apologies. Tuesday night featured another high-scoring matchup for K-State against Nebraska. The Cats had a big fourth inning to take an 8–6 lead but couldn’t hold off the Huskers, who scored five runs in the very next inning. Nebraska added a few more runs and kept the Bat Cats’ offense in check to win 14–9. Multiple K-State hitters had strong nights at the plate, including Kyan Lodice (3-for-5 with 2

Two Late Collapses, One Strong Response: K-State’s Resilience on Display

The weekend series against Arizona State was a roller coaster of emotions. After K-State dropped the first two games—despite leading late in each—they surged back to run-rule the Sun Devils on a windy Sunday afternoon. Two primary thoughts ran through my head after the weekend: K-State got a valuable lesson in executing the little things to finish out a game, and this team is incredibly resilient. I still feel good despite losing the series. For game one on Friday, my wife an

K-State Explodes Past Baylor, Eyes Arizona State Test

There were two questions I had after a bitter ending to Game 3 against Houston on Sunday: How would K-State bounce back? And could Shintaro Inoue and Carlos Vasquez keep their hot streaks going? The answers in last night’s action were clear—K-State bounced back like the team we saw in Games 1 and 2 in Houston, and yes, Inoue and Vasquez stayed hot. The Bat Cats took their weekday game against Baylor in seven innings by a score of 13–3, exploding for seven runs in the top of t

Explosive Offense Powers K-State to Series Win Over Houston

K-State baseball improved to 15–5 on the season after taking two of three games against Houston over the weekend. The first two games were a showcase of K-State's powerful offense, which exploded for 20 and 16 runs to run-rule Houston in each game. The final game on Sunday was a much closer matchup, even though the final score does not make it appear that way, with the Cats dropping that game 16–6 and getting run-ruled after eight innings. The weekend had been rolling smoothl

K-State Improves to 13–4 With Midweek Wins, Opens Big 12 Play at Houston

Kansas State baseball improved to 13–4 this week after two midweek games against Wichita State and South Dakota State. K-State topped the Shockers in a tight matchup, 7–5, then rolled past South Dakota State 9–0 the next day. Tuesday's matchup against Wichita State was a back-and-forth affair featuring 10 hits for WSU and 12 for the Cats. K-State racked up the extra-base hits, including two doubles by Micah Kendrick and Grant Gallagher, two triples by AJ Evasco and Carlos Vas

Smolinski’s Perfect Weekend Powers K-State Sweep

K-State baseball improved to 11–4 on the season after an offensive explosion this past weekend, sweeping SIU Edwardsville in a three-game series. The Wildcats took each game 14–5, 8–4, and 20–7 (7 innings). Those 42 runs scored featured 41 hits, 11 doubles, one triple, and 12 home runs (maybe some credit to the weather on Sunday, but not all). Also important to note is that all three of K-State’s starting pitchers recorded wins this weekend. James Guyette, Tanner Duke, and Li

Cats Win First Home Series Over Columbia

After dropping game one of the weekend to Columbia 9-8, while having a 5-0 lead after the fifth inning, the relentless Bat Cats took games two and three to win their first home series of the season. Game one included a bolt of offense from AJ Evasco and Dee Kennedy, each with 3 RBI. James Guyette had another brilliant start going five innings with eight strikeouts and no runs given up. It was the K-State bullpen, that has been reliable thus far starting the year, that gave up

Cajuns Walk It Off in 11th to Sweep K-State

It was an unfortunate end to the game Wednesday night in Lafayette. The Cajuns hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to sweep the Cats in their two-game series. Louisiana struck first with a sacrifice fly in the first inning off K-State starter Matthew Flores. Flores was relieved by Tazwell Butler in the fourth inning and went 4.1 innings without giving up a hit. During that stretch, K-State evened the score in the sixth inning with an RBI single from

K-State Drops Game 1 to Cajuns, Look to Even Tonight

Head coach Pete Hughes said that when he scheduled this two game series at Louisiana, he knew it would be a test of toughness on the road early on. That’s just what the Cats got last night in Lafayette losing game one with a score of 1-0. K-State and the Cajuns both only recorded 3 hits for the game, but it was Louisiana who had the big one of a solo home run in the third inning. Credit is due to Wildcat starting pitcher Tanner Duke who threw a career high 6.1 innings, walked

Bat Cats Rally Past Early Setback, Finish 2–1 in Arlington

K-State baseball continued its successful start to the season, going 2–1 this past weekend at the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series in Arlington, Texas. The Bat Cats dropped their first game to Auburn but responded well with impressive wins over Nebraska and Michigan. Game one on Friday was against a top-10 ranked Auburn Tigers squad. The game featured a solid outing by James Guyette, who registered six innings pitched, allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out

Bat Cats Stay Hot, Move to 4–0

K-State baseball capped off the weekend with an 11–8 win over Air Force today. With the win, the Cats move to a perfect 4–0 to start the season. The offense, of course, was once again a headline for K-State, registering 11 runs on 11 hits, seven walks, and four stolen bases. Shintaro Inoue and Grant Gallagher both went yard, AJ Evasco recorded his first triple of the season, and Donte Lewis showed off his bat with a double. Hitting wasn’t the only bright spot. Despite giving

Cats Stay Hot, Crushes Penn State 24–5

Bat Cats took their third game over Penn State today in dominant fashion to improve to 3–0 to start the season. K-State scored 24 runs on 21 hits, fueled by a 14-run seventh inning to run-rule Penn State 24–5 in seven innings. All players had a great day for the Cats, but I will give a special shoutout to Dee Kennedy and Lincoln Sheffield. Kennedy finished the day with four hits and seven RBIs, including two doubles and two home runs — one being his second grand slam of the w

Late Rally and Lockdown Bullpen Push Cats Over UConn

The Cats completed a comeback win last night against the UConn Huskies with a five-run bottom of the eighth inning. The inning kicked off with K-State down 3–2 when Micah Kendrick was hit by a pitch and Cadyn Karl came in to run. Robby Bolin followed by laying down a sacrifice bunt, and an overthrow by UConn's catcher allowed Karl to score and tie the game, while Bolin advanced to third with the middle of the order due up. Grant Gallagher walked, then AJ Evasco blew the doors
